5. Rules within the text
- Turkish texts follow the Spelling Guide of the Turkish Language Association. English texts use either British or American spelling consistently.
- An abbreviation is spelled out at first use, with the abbreviation in parentheses: Kişisel Verilerin Korunması Kanunu (KVKK).
- Foreign words and terms are set in italics. Bold or underlining is not used for emphasis. Italics are used instead.
- Quotations of fewer than 40 words are placed in the text within quotation marks. Longer quotations are set as block quotations.
- References to articles of a statute use the abbreviation "md." (article): KVKK md. 9.
- Numbers from one to ten are written in words. Larger numbers are written in figures. Measurements, percentages and dates are always written in figures.
6. Tables and figures
- Tables and figures are numbered separately: Table 1, Figure 1.
- The table title appears above the table. The figure title appears below the figure.
- The source is given below the table or figure, introduced by "Source:".
- Tables are prepared with Word's table tool and are not inserted as images.
- Figures have a resolution of at least 300 dpi and may also be uploaded as separate files.
- If a table or figure belonging to someone else is used, permission is obtained from the rights holder.
- Each table and figure counts as 250 words in the word count.
7. Citation system
The Review uses the The Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition (2024), Notes and Bibliography system in a Turkish adaptation. Citations are given in footnotes. A bibliography appears at the end of the text.
The names of persons and works in the examples are illustrative. The treaty and court decision examples are real sources.
7.1. General rules
- The footnote number is placed as a superscript after the punctuation mark of the relevant sentence or word.
- The full reference is given at the first citation of a work. A short citation is used for subsequent citations.
- "a.g.e.", "a.g.m.", "age", "ibid." and "op. cit." are not used. A short citation is also used for consecutive citations of the same work.
- Page numbers are written without the abbreviation "s." (page).
- If a DOI exists, it is added at the end of the reference in the form
https://doi.org/. - Legislation is cited only in footnotes and is not included in the bibliography.
